Romance on the Main from Nuremberg

ITINERARY

Visit: Nuremberg, Bamberg, Würzburg, Wertheim, Frankfurt, Koblenz, Cologne

Day 1: Nuremberg

There’s so much to say about Nuremberg – and this city in Franconia has so many attributes. It’s the city of Wagner’s Master-Singers, Dürer, the Christkindlmarket, gingerbread and bratwurst. This means that you can choose what you’d like to focus on. Interested in food and drink, or culture? Or both? You’re bound to find what you’re looking for here. On this cruise along the Rhine and Main, a stroll through Nuremberg will definitely be worth it.

Spend another day discovering Nuremberg before your river cruise departs at 5 pm.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Bamberg

Arrive :30am - Depart 1:00pm

Bamberg’s unmistakable cityscape is an architectural masterpiece that took 1,000 years to create. Overlooked by its unique cathedral, Bamberg is a work of art in and of itself, with a wealth of listed buildings that bring together the Gothic and bourgeois baroque styles. This old Franconian seat of bishops and emperors dazzles visitors with its splendid cathedral, its churches and monasteries, its bridges, alleyways and squares, and its half-timbered houses and baroque facades.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Würzburg

Arrive 1:00pm - Depart 11:00pm

Today your romantic river cruise will stop off in Würzburg. This old seat of bishops straddles the River Main. As a university city, Würzburg has an excellent reputation. A centre of Franconian winemaking, it is also the economic hub of Lower Franconia. The city is dominated by its medieval fortress, the Marienberg. A varied visit awaits you here!

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Wertheim

Arrive 9:00am - Depart 6:00pm

With its well-preserved city wall, narrow alleyways, richly decorated half-timbered houses and picturesque market square, Wertheim is quaint and relatively authentic. The ruined castle, perched on a hill, is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. In his 1862 account of the Main region, Karl Baedeker describes Wertheim as the high point of the entire trip. You can put this claim to the test yourself during your Rhine cruise.

Day 6: Frankfurt

Arrive 9:00am

Welcome to Goethe’s birthplace! Here’s another historical fact while we’re at it: this is where the first German national assembly met in 1848. Today, the metropolis on the Main is home to the headquarters of major banks and is also one of Germany’s most important centres of business and commerce. Frankfurt is also known for its many futuristic-looking high-rises. You’ll get a closer view of them when your Rhine cruise takes you along the Main river.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7: Frankfurt - Koblenz

Frankfurt: Depart 2:00am  |  Koblenz: Arrive 3:00pm - Depart 10:00pm

Discover Koblenz during your Rhine cruise. Its history dates back over 2,000 years, making it one of Germany’s oldest cities – and one of its most picturesque, with a wealth of sights and cultural attractions. Marvel at Koblenz’s palaces, stately homes, grand townhouses, narrow lanes and romantic corners. And watch as our A-ROSA ship sails close to the famous Deutsches Eck headland.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8: Cologne

Arrive 6:00am

Your exciting Rhine and Main cruise ends in Cologne, but your wonderful memories will last forever. Before you start your journey home, use the day to take a further look around North Rhine-Westphalia or explore the city. The magnificent cathedral of Cologne is an absolute must-see. See you soon and Ahoy!
