ITINERARY

Visit: Reykjavik, Akranes, Bildudalur, Isafjordur, Siglufjordur, Husavik, Akureyri

Day 1 (Saturday): Reykjavik

Embarkation at 15:00pm-16:00pm. Overnight in port.

Day 2 (Sunday): Reykjavik

All day optional excursion in Reykjavik city before leaving to enjoy a panoramic tour of the volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula. Vikingaheimar and the geothermal fields of Krysuvik. Overnight in port.

Day 3 (Monday): Reykjavik - Akranes

Morning sailing and arrival in Akranes for our optional full day excursion to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful thermal spring, to the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls area. We will stop in Reykholt which was at one time one of the intellectual centers of the island and had for many years one of the most important schools of the country. Here lived and died in the middle ages one of the most important persons in Icelandic history: Snorri Sturluson, a famous poet and politician whose records of the old Norse language and mythology of medieval Iceland are invaluable to modern scholars. Remains of his farm and a bathroom with hot pot and a tunnel between the bath and the house can still be visited. In the afternoon we rejoin the ship and sail to the west fjords. Overnight at sea

Day 4 (Tuesday): Bildudalur - Isafjordur

We sail past the latrarbag cliffs which rise 450m over the sea and reach Bildudalur. Our afternoon optional excursion will take us to the dynjandi waterfall and we will walk around Bildudalur and visit the sea monsters museum. In the afternoon, we cruise around the Westfjords to Isafjordur. Evening arrival in Isafjorfur. Overnight in port

Day 5 (Wednesday): Isafjordur

Isafjordur is a large fishing port in Wesfjords. Our afternoon optional excursion will take us to Bolungravik and then to Osvor town where we will visit a restored fisherman's hut. Back in town we will visit the maritime museum and walk around the town known for its rich cultural heritage and merchant's homes dating from the 18th century. In the afternoon we sail to Siglufjordur. Overnight at sea

Day 6 (Thursday):  Siglufjordur - Husavik

This morning we reach Siglufjordur, Iceland's northernmost city, very close to the arctic circle and possibly the most picturesque port of Iceland. Once known as the capital of herring fishing. The optional walking tour through the city will take you to the port, the herring museum, the folk music center housed in Madame house, the oldest house in the city. After lunch, we leave for nearby Husavik port. Late in the afternoon we sail in the Skjafandi Bay and reach Husavik, Europe's capital of whale watching. We will have time to stroll around this charming fishing village and visit the wooden church, the best preserved church in Iceland. Overnight in port.

Day 7 (Friday):  Husavik - Akureyri

This morning our full day optional excursion will take you from Husavik to Akureyri (where you will meet the Callisto in the evening). You will visit the lake Myvatn, Namarksard and Dimmuborgir, all fine examples of the volcanic world with lava fields, boiling and steaming mud pools, steam vents and craters. After lunch we continue on the ring road to reach Godafoss waterfall - the falls of the gods - and will hear about the Kristni saga, recounting the arrival of Christianity and the end of paganism. We rejoin the Callisto in Akureyri the capital of northern Iceland and we will spend some time walking around this colorful city visiting, in particular, the art alley. Overnight in port.

Day 8 (Saturday): Akureyri

Disembarkation 06:00-10:00am.

Reykjavik to Akureyi

Day 1 (Saturday): Reykjavik

Embarkation at 15:00-16:00pm. Overnight in port.

Day 2 (Sunday): Reykjavik

Our Golden Circle optional excursion will start at the Thingvellir National Park, a place of tremendous interest as a primary site of both Iceland's geological and historical heritage. The tour continues to Gulfoss, Iceland's most beautiful waterfall and then to the Geysir geothermal area with its multitude of hot springs, where the most active one, Strokkur, spouts every few minutes. We stop at the Hveragerdi village, where geothermal water has been used to build up an extensive greenhouse industry and then at the Hellisheioi Geothermal Power Plant showcasing Iceland's ability to supply green power. Our tour ends as we pass through Reykjavik's city center before arriving at the pier. Overnight in port.

Day 3 (Monday): Reykjavik - Akranes

Morning sailing to Akranes and disembark by tenders for our 2 Optional excursions:
1. The Vikings saga optional excursion: You will reach Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful thermal spring, to the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls area. We will stop in Reykholt which was the intellectual centers of the island.
2. The Langjokull Glacier optional excursion: We drive to Iceland's majestic hinterland, the Langjokull glacier, Iceland's second largest glacier. At the Langjokull, ("The Long Glacier", 360 m. 4,460 ft.) you will visit the Ice Cave, a man-made cave that consists of a series of tunnels and caves carved through solid glacier ice. There is also an ice chapel and an ice bar. Our guide will tell you about glaciology and how climate change is affecting the glaciers. After lunch you will drive to Hraunfoss and Barnafoss - two of Iceland's most picturesque waterfalls, located close to Husafell. Your return to Akranes will take you along the coastline, back to the pier for embarkation and a late afternoon sailing to Patreksfjordur. Overnight at sea

Day 4 (Tuesday): Patreksfjordur- Dynjandi - Isafjordur, Iceland

Morning arrival at Patreksfjordur. Today we can chose from 2 optional excursions:
1. The optional Westfjord adventure excursion starts from our port and reaches the Latrabjarg cliffs, with the largest seabird colony in the northern Atlantic famous for its puffins colony. Your next stop is at Rauoasandur or "Red Sand" beach, distinct itself from most of Iceland's beaches, as it is golden and pink in color. We will ride on a tractor carriage with our expert guide and local farmer along the beach to the seal colony, where you can see the seals up close.
2. The optional excursion to the Dynjandi waterfall, one of the most beautiful in Iceland and Bildudalur for a visit to the sea monsters museum. Late afternoon, we cruise around the Harnafjordur fjord to and anchor in front of the majestic Dynzandi Waterfall. After drinks to celebrate this wonder of nature, we sail to Isafjordur. Late night arrival in Isafjordur. Overnight in port.

Day 5 (Wednesday): Isafjordur

After breakfast onboard, disembark for an optional tour to Thingeyri village and the interactive Viking Museum. After the "Viking experience" we return to Isafjordur and visit the Maritime and Heritage Museum, highlighting the rich history and culture of this fishing community. In the afternoon we sail to Siglufjordur. Overnight at sea.

Day 6 (Thursday): Siglufjordur - Husavik

This morning we reach Siglufjordur, Iceland's northernmost city, very close to the Arctic Circle and possibly the most picturesque port of Iceland. Once known as the capital of Herring fishing. Day 7 (Friday): Husavik - Akureyri

Today, Husavik is your starting point for 2 optional excursions: 1. Optional Whale watching morning excursion Whale watching near the Arctic Circle: Husavik is also called Europe's whale watching capital. Enjoy the magnificent wildlife and stunning scenery aboard a renovated traditional oak fishing boat and see from close minke whales white beaked dolphins, and harbor porpoises. 2. Lake Myvatn & Godafoss optional tour: Depart Husavik around noon and head to the thermal field of Namaskard. Then continue to Dimmuborgir lava labyrinth, a paradise of towering lava castles, natural arches and grottos. Lunch included Driving along the shores of Lake Myvatn we reach Skutustadir and its amazing craters. We then continue to the Godafoss, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. Our tour will end at Akureyri, where we rejoin the Panorama late evening. Passengers not taking the excursion will be sailing from Husavik to Akureyri with the Panorama.  Overnight in Akureyri.

Day 8 (Saturday): Akureyri

Disembarkation 06:00-10:00am.

Akureyi to Reykjavik

Day 1 (Saturday): Akureyri

Embarkation 15:00-16:00pm -  Overnight in port  and time for an optional late afternoon walking excursion in Akureyri.

Day 2 (Sunday): Akureyri - Husavik

This morning our full day optional excursion will take you from Akureyri to Husavik (where you will meet the Panorama in the evening). We take the Ring Road to reach Godafoss Waterfall - the Falls of the Gods - and will hear about the Kristni Saga, recounting the arrival of Christianity and the end of Paganism.  After lunch we visit   Lake Myvatn, Namarksard and Dimmuborgir, all fine examples of the volcanic world with lava fields, boiling and steaming mud pools, steam vents and craters.  We rejoin the Panorama in Husavik midafternoon. Time to walk around this colorful port or option to take a late afternoon whale watching excursion. Passengers not taking the excursion will be sailing from Akureyri to Husavik with the Panorama. Overnight in port.

Day 3 (Monday): Husavik -Siglufjordur

Morning sailing through the Skjafandi Bay to Siglufjordur. As always our Captain will inform you of whale sightings. Mid-day we reach Siglufjordur, Iceland's northernmost city, very close to the Arctic Circle and possibly the most picturesque  port of Iceland. Once known as the capital of Herring fishing. The optional walking excursion through the city will take you to the port, the Herring Museum, the Folk Music center housed in Madame House, the oldest house in the city. Late afternoon we sail to the port of Isafjordur. Overnight at sea.

Day 4 (Tuesday): Isafjordur

After breakfast onboard, disembark for an optional tour to Thingeyri village and the interactive Viking Museum. After the “Viking experience” we return to Isafjordur and visit the Maritime and Heritage Museum, highlighting the rich history and culture of this fishing community.Return to Panorama. Late afternoon, we cruise around the Westfjords on our way to the picturesque Patreksfjordur. Overnight at sea.
