Culinary Provence


Visit: Avignon, Roussillon, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Avignon

Day 1: Arrival in Avignon

Upon arrival at Avignon TGV Station, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in. The rest of the day is free at leisure for you to explore this beautiful city at your own pace.

Day 2: Avignon - Morning Cooking Class in the Popes' City

Breakfast at the hotel. At 09:00am, walk on your own to meet the Chef in front of the vegetal wall of “Les Halles”, the covered market displaying fresh and colourful food every morning. Choose with him the best local products that you will cook during the lesson. Arrival in his cooking workshop in Avignon for registration of the trainees. Creation of recipe cards to be performed. Theoretical demonstration with practice. During the Apéritif, various thinkings about the course given together with how to pair the meals with wine. Lunch (drinks included) with the Chef and informal talk about the course presented. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy a self visit of Avignon at your own pace with the tickets for the Popes' Palace, biggest gothic palace in Europe, for the Pont d'Avignon, famous for the French song 'Sur le Pont d'Avignon' and a wine tasting in a wine shop.

Day 3: All Provence in One day

At 09:00am, pick up at your hotel by your English speaking driver/guide. Enjoy a shared full day tour to discover the most beautiful monuments and spots in Provence. Departure from Avignon to Roussillon built at the top of an ochre cliff and providing visitors with a beautiful understanding of the harmonious combination of man and nature and of ochre and stone, with all these ochre-washed facades. Enjoy the market in Roussillon (only on Thursday's). Continuation toward Gordes which is a village erected on the top of a cliff, its fortified castle and church dominate the typical houses of the village which were built with stones from the rock on which they are fitting. Enjoy the market in Gordes (only on Tuesday's). Drive to Fontaine de Vaucluse and walk up to the cave from which the River Sorgues emerges. This impressive resurgence spring hasn't revealed its secrets yet and many speleologists have searched in vain the exact depth of the well. Free time for lunch on your own in Gordes or Fontaine de Vaucluse. Continue to the Pont du Gard (entrance fees included). Visit the best preserved aqueduct of the Roman period, dating back to the 1st century and listed by UNESCO. In Les Baux de Provence there will be time for a photo stop and free time to visit this medieval village located on a rocky spur in the Alpilles mountain range. Enjoy a photo stop at the Antiques in Saint Rémy de Provence (Triumphal Arch and mausoleum) located in an olive-tree field. On Sundays only, enjoy L’Isle sur la Sorgue, village famous for antique shops and the weekly open air market which is one of the most colourful and typical in Provence. At 19:30pm you will be dropped off at your hotel.

Day 4: Culture & Wine Morning Tour and Cooking Class

At 09:00am, you will be picked up at your hotel by your English speaking driver/guide. Enjoy a shared half day tour to Orange and Chateauneuf du Pape. Orange, enjoy a panoramic tour of the city and its roman monuments, Triumphal Arch, Antique Theater (entrance ticket and audioguide included) one of the best preserved theaters from the Roman period. Châteauneuf du Pape, enjoy a scenic drive and sightseeing in the vineyards followed by a wine tasting in a cellar, a good introduction to the wines of the Rhône Valley. During the tour, get explanations about "terroir", grape varieties, vinification and aging cellars. Enjoy an afternoon cooking class with an English speaking chef in his charming restaurant in Avignon center. During the Apéritif, various thinkings about the course given together with how to pair the meals with wine. Dinner (drinks included).

Day 5: Cooking Class and Private Tour

Breakfast at the hotel. At 08:30am, meet your English speaking driver/guide and depart for a cooking class in the Alpilles area. After lunch, head to Villeneuve les Avignon, where you will visit an olive mill and enjoy an olive oil tasting. Free time to discover the charming village. At 18:00pm you will be dropped off at your hotel.

Day 6: Afternoon Cooking Class and Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, your morning will be free at leisure for you to explore at your own pace, relaxe or maybe join an optional shared tour. At the end of the afternoon, you will meet your English speaking chef at a 5* Hotel in Avignon to start your cooking class followed by dinner (drinks included). This is for you the opportunity to cook in a typical Provencal kitchen! Walk back to your hotel after the dinner.

Day 7: Departure from Avignon

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Avignon TGV Station for you departure or onward journey.
